Fieldwork in Guatemala
Both my research on K'iche' phonetics and phonology and the Chichicastenango K'iche' Language Documentation Project have relied on fieldwork in Chichicastenango, Guatemala. While in Chichicastenango, I meet with native speakers to ask them questions about the language and record their speech. I have been fortunate to be able to visit Guatemala three times: for two months in 2018 (mostly in Nahualá, followed by a four-day trip to Chichicastenango), for two months in 2019 (mostly in Chichicastenango) and - after a long intermission caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic - for one month in 2023 (in Chichicastenango).
